World Overpopulation Posters

Description

A set of posters for an assignment in my "Challenge and Change in Society" class. The assignment was titled "Public Awareness Campaign"; we were to form groups and invent an organization that promotes awareness for a specific cause. The World Overpopulation Organization (WOO lol) was created!

The purpose of these posters is of course, to raise awareness of world overpopulation and the risks it carries if we continue to let the population rise at it's current rate. If these were to be used in real life, they would be place in some sort of hallway, or staircase where they could be viewed consecutively from the 1900: 1.6 BILLION to the 2013: 7 BILLION poster. The viewer should notice the first two posters and then the second two, noticing how big a jump there was in 13 years (1 billion) compared to the 50 years between 1900-1950 (0.9 billion). Then are then asked if this is sustainable, and if they are curious, they would visit the website linked for in-depth analysis of the problem. Large portions of information was not presented on the poster for the simple fact that, nobody will read it! These posters are meant to be read at the walking pace.

The last poster, "2013: 7 BILLION" was meant to be the most visually impactful, for obvious reasons. I'm not sure if the "Is this really sustainable? Visit www . whypopulationmatters . com to find out" is effective or not. It does look a bit cluttered depending on how I look at it; it is on an angle, and in capitals, which does help differentiate it a little, but still. I was under big time constraints towards the end of the last poster, so I was unable to think through other options very well. Overall, I'm happy with this set though!
